How to Deal With Emotionally Needy People


Do you know someone who always seems to request a lot of your time and attention? Do you wish you could just run away and hide from this person or cut them off altogether? It feels good to be needed, but some people take it too far. If you’re not careful, emotionally needy people can drain you of your time, sanity, and emotional energy. These resources are just too precious to freely give away. If you are currently dealing with someone who is emotionally draining you, you’ll need to do something about it before you burn out (or act out). Sometimes people will demand more from you emotionally than you are able — or desire — to give. It could be someone who wants to be your friend, but you don’t feel like he or she would be a good fit for you. Or it could be someone who is romantically interested, but you are either not ready for a relationship or are not interested in a relationship with that particular individual. You could even be in a casual romantic relationship with someone who wants to get more serious, so he or she constantly calls and texts and pushes for more intimacy and reassurance, but you don’t want to move in that direction just yet.
